UNCONDITIONAL is a poetry generator combining Terms of Service Agreements with Craigslist Missed Connections to create an interactive interpretation of personalized love letters. Translating what was once an unemotional, unbiased contract into a personal love letter. The interactive experience involves a floating letter that rewrites itself as observers approach it.
The code behind UNCONDITIONAL is written in python and uses a markov generator and n-ram analysis to translate the original source text into a new passage that is layered with regenerated meaning. The original source text is comprised of Craigslist Missed Connections and Terms of Service agreements from the New York Times. The physical installation includes a floating, projection-mapped 8"x10" watercolor canvas at eye-level that displays a new poem for each new viewer.
UNCONDITIONAL aims to use the technology and the anonymity of online contracts and public postings against themselves to reveal the people and personalities behind them. It is through this act of translation that we experience the humor, romance, and sometimes disgust of what is simultaneously completely personal and totally invisible.
Selected texts were performed at "Generate This" on May 9, 2013.
An interative physical installation was exhibited at the ITP Spring Show, May 18-19, 2013.
UNCONDITIONAL is a collaboration between Sheiva Rezvani and Alessandra Villaamil.
